About Us
The Davie Poplar Tree

The Davie Poplar Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1928. It is named in honor of General William Richardson Davie and the landmark tulip poplar tree located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). Legend holds that after finding respite in the shade of this tulip poplar, William Davie declared it the site of our first state university.
Meetings
Our chapter meets once a month from September through May. A typical meeting includes social time, a guest speaker, a brief business meeting, and lunch. We also have a special meeting in September for Constitution Week.
We encourage anyone interested in joining DAR to attend one of our meetings to better understand the DAR organization and especially our chapter. Please contact us for more information.
